Blair Street Gardens is sad to announce the passing of Jeff Kuesel, our founder and President for almost 30 years. He was devoted to the gardens, spending endless hours fundraising, planning, and selecting plants. And then spent even more hours carefully planting and tending the gardens. Quite simply, without Jeff there would be no gardens. Jeff was also a devoted public servant, working for years as a drafter of legislation at the Wisconsin Legislative Reference Bureau. He retired from BSG and LRB in 2013. He died on January 13, 2026 at the age of 78. We so appreciate his dedication and contributions to Madison and Wisconsin.
Before The Gateway Garden was redesigned to its current configuration, Jeff planted thousands (yes, thousands) of tulips every other year and hundreds (yes, hundreds) of annuals every year. He was tireless!
